Youth fails to gun down political party councillor in eastern India, caught by locals
In an alarming incident in eastern India’s West Bengal, a youth allegedly tried to gun down a Trinamool Congress councillor in front of his home.
The incident took place in the Kasba area of Kolkata district on November 15.
Visuals showed the pillion rider, wearing a helmet, getting off and approaching the councillor, Susanta Ghosh, who was seated with two others. The attacker brandished a gun and attempted to fire at close range, but the weapon malfunctioned. Ghosh, along with his acquaintances, quickly chased the attacker, who tried to escape by jumping back onto the scooter. However, one of Ghosh’s associates managed to pull him off the vehicle and onto the ground. Additional visuals revealed one of Ghosh’s acquaintances holding the minor and questioning him angrily, while the minor, visibly distressed and fearful, responded.
According to reports, the youth was detained by the group and handed over to the police. The assailant, a minor from Bihar’s Vaishali district, was carrying an improvised 9mm pistol, which was seized by authorities. The police are now searching for the second individual involved in the incident. Ghosh recalled that the youth had been shown a photograph of him and was instructed to carry out the attack. The councillor and his companions were unharmed, but residents expressed their shock, stating that the consequences could have been fatal had the gun functioned properly.
