Young man swept away by flooded river in western India, rescued by villagers
In a dramatic rescue operation, a young man in western India’s Maharashtra was swept away by the sudden surge of water in the Dhond River after heavy rains caused severe flooding.
The incident took place in Khuldabad taluka of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar of Aurangabad district and the video went viral on September 3.
Visuals showed the river swollen and muddy, with the water rushing past at a dangerous speed. The young man, clinging to his motorcycle, was quickly overtaken by the floodwaters. Nearby villagers, who witnessed the incident, immediately sprang into action. They jumped inside the water to pull the man to safety, risking their own lives in the process.
According to reports, the man, who was on his motorcycle when the river’s water levels rose rapidly, lost control and was carried away by the powerful current.
The Khuldabad area, known for its historical significance and proximity to the famous Ellora Caves, has been experiencing heavy rainfall, leading to widespread flooding. The Dhond River, usually a calm and shallow waterway, transformed into a dangerous torrent, catching locals off guard. The villagers’ quick thinking and bravery prevented what could have been a tragic outcome.
Local authorities have issued warnings to residents, advising them to avoid crossing rivers and streams during this period of heavy rain. The young man, although shaken, is reported to be safe and recovering after his harrowing experience.
