A terrifying experience unfolded on Wednesday evening when Sarita Sinha, a 52-year-old resident, became trapped in the lift of Tower B-6 for nearly 90 minutes. She entered the lift at 6:38 PM to travel from the second floor to the seventh floor, but the lift malfunctioned midway, leaving her stranded inside.
Despite repeatedly shouting for help and pressing the emergency alarm, no immediate help arrived. It was only after an hour that a technician was able to reach the spot. The delay in response left Sarita deeply shaken as she anxiously awaited rescue. Meanwhile, residents gathered outside the lift, trying to comfort her from the outside.
D.S. Mehra, a representative of Tower B-6 and Sarita’s neighbor, narrated the ordeal, stating that the maintenance team took far too long to arrive. “Even after the alarm was raised, it took almost an hour for the technician to reach and open the lift,” he said.
The incident has raised concerns among residents about the frequent lift malfunctions in society. They reported that such incidents are becoming alarmingly common, leaving residents worried for their safety.
In a related incident the same day, a 70-year-old woman was trapped in a lift at the Migson Green Mansion Society in Noida for 25 minutes due to a power outage. Despite pressing the alarm, no security personnel responded. The woman had to call her son, who alerted other residents, and the lift was finally opened with the help of maintenance staff.
Following the incidents, the police were called to the scene to investigate the situation. However, both societies blamed the private lift maintenance companies for the repeated malfunctions, stating that they are responsible for the upkeep of the elevators. The residents have demanded immediate action to prevent such occurrences in the future.
These incidents underline the need for stricter maintenance protocols and quicker response times from maintenance teams to ensure the safety of residents in high-rise societies.
