Woman narrowly escapes collapsing wall amidst heavy rain in southern India

A pedestrian in southern India’s Kerala had a narrow escape when a mosque’s compound wall collapsed due to incessant heavy rains, which prompted an orange alert and caused widespread flooding in the district.

 

The incident took place in Anjarakandy area of Kannur district on July 18.

Visuals showed it was raining, and people were walking on the road with umbrellas. As a woman was passing by, the wall of a nearby mosque suddenly collapsed. Fortunately, she heard the wall starting to fall and ran away just in time, escaping unhurt. Others walking behind her also narrowly avoided the falling debris. The collapsed wall left stones and rubble scattered all over the road.

 

A woman pedestrian in Anjarakandy, Kannur, narrowly escaped a collapsing wall on Thursday morning. The incident occurred amidst heavy rainfall that has persisted for days, leading to an orange alert for Thursday and Friday. The continuous downpour has resulted in severe waterlogging across Kannur, disrupting traffic and causing significant damage to crops in the hilly regions.

 

The collapsed wall belonged to a mosque and fell onto the road just as the woman was passing by.

 

Authorities are urging residents to remain cautious and avoid venturing out unless necessary, as the heavy rains continue to batter the district, increasing the risk of further incidents.
