In a tragic incident, Priyanka, the daughter-in-law of a Border Security Force (BSF) soldier residing in Meharana Sarai village, Baldev, Mathura, attempted suicide by jumping from the second floor of her house.
The incident occurred after alleged pressure from her father-in-law to bring a dowry of ₹20 lakh. Priyanka’s husband, who is serving in the BSF, was away on duty at the time of the incident.
The family rushed Priyanka to the Mathura District Hospital, where she was admitted for treatment of serious injuries sustained from the fall. Doctors have described her condition as critical but stable.
An investigation into the incident has been initiated by the local authorities, and action is expected to be taken against those responsible for pressuring Priyanka to take such a drastic step. Dowry-related issues continue to plague many parts of India despite legal provisions against it, highlighting the urgent need for greater awareness and enforcement of laws aimed at curbing this social menace.
