Woman assaulted, kidnapped and drugged by husband, in-laws in western India

A woman was forcibly dragged and kidnapped by her husband and in-laws in western India’s Maharashtra. The Police have filed charges against the accused for kidnapping and administering anesthesia.

The incident took place in Pimpri Chinchwad city in Pune district on June 19.

Visuals showed a woman being dragged by another woman and two men onto the road. During this, a four-wheeler is brought to the scene. The victim is forcibly put into the vehicle, despite her strong resistance, as she is overpowered by the three assailants. The car door is then closed.

The incident occurred on June 19 at approximately 3:15 pm, when the victim, identified as Mrs. Shahane, was at her office in Wakad. She was reportedly drugged and beaten by her husband, Sumit Shahane, who, along with his mother and other accomplices, forcibly dragged her out of the office, pulled her to the ground as she resisted, and shoved her into a car.

The woman’s desperate attempts to free herself were captured on CCTV, which later went viral on social media, prompting widespread outrage and bringing the incident to the attention of the authorities. The footage shows the brutal manner in which she was handled, highlighting the severity of the assault.

According to the police, the victim was drugged with an anesthetic injection by her husband, who then coerced her into signing documents while she was in a vulnerable state. The ordeal continued until the vehicle stopped at a temple in the Manchar area, where the woman managed to seek help from a local resident, who alerted the police.

The couple, who were married in August 2023, had been living separately after the woman moved back to her parents’ house due to disagreements and demands made by her husband. Following her rescue, the woman filed a complaint, leading to charges being pressed against Sumit Shahane, his mother, and other involved parties under Sections 365 (kidnapping), 328 (administering poison), 504 (intentional insult), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police continue to investigate the case, ensuring that the accused are brought to justice. This disturbing incident underscores the need for vigilance and swift action in addressing domestic violence and abuse.
