Wild tusker’s nighttime visit stirs panic in northern India’s village
In a rare but alarming incident, a tusker wandered through the streets of a village in northern India’s Uttarakhand, triggering fear among the locals.
The incident took place at Bogla village, Bahadrabad area, Haridwar district on November 8.
Visuals showed the elephant wandering through the narrow lanes at night, was captured on CCTV footage of one of the homes. The large animal moving calmly but purposefully through the village, causing concern for residents who fear for their safety and that of their properties.
According to reports, villagers expressed concern that such encounters are becoming more frequent as elephants stray into populated areas in search of food or water, likely due to habitat disruptions. The forest department is now working to manage human-animal conflicts in this region, promising vigilance and response to mitigate risks for the villagers.
