Wild jumbo sparks panic at picnic site, sends visitors fleeing

A serene picnic turned chaotic when a massive wild pachyderm unexpectedly appeared at a popular gathering spot, sending visitors scrambling for safety.

The incident took place near the Assam-Arunachal border, located in the Charaideo District of Assam, northeastern India, on January 28.

Visuals show the gentle giant suddenly emerging in an area where people are dining and relaxing. A man, busy preparing food near a stove, is seen as panicked picnickers flee. Meanwhile, a car crosses a nearby waterbody just as the mammoth creature rushes through the area, seemingly startled by the commotion.

According to reports, the colossal beast wandered in from a nearby forest, disrupting the gathering and causing people to flee in fear. Although no injuries were reported, the animal trampled through the area, damaging food stalls and temporary shelters.

Forest department officials and local authorities quickly arrived to assess the situation and ensure the safety of both the visitors and the majestic animal. “It likely ventured out in search of food. We advise people to stay calm and avoid provoking the animal,” a forest official stated.

Human-tusker encounters are frequent in this region due to habitat loss, which forces wildlife to stray into human settlements. Authorities have urged visitors to exercise caution in areas known for wildlife activity and avoid carrying food that might attract animals.

Efforts are currently underway to guide the massive land mammal back to its natural habitat. In the meantime, locals and tourists have been advised to steer clear of the area until the situation is fully under control.
