Wild injured sambhar deer on tracks brings train to a halt for over 1.5 hours

Two wild sambhar deer wandered onto the railway tracks, and one had its leg stuck, which caused the train to be halted for over one and a half hours.

The incident occurred at Nangal Dam of Rupnagar district, Punjab on December 16.

Visuals show the train halted on the tracks while the injured sambhar deer sat helplessly on the railway line. The deer’s leg was fractured, leaving it unable to place weight on the injured limb. A rescue team promptly arrived at the scene, carefully tying the deer’s leg and covering its eyes with a cloth to calm it. They gently moved the animal from the railway tracks to the roadside, where they untied its leg and reassured it with soothing gestures. The team then immobilized the fractured leg with a cloth bandage, keeping its eyes covered to reduce stress, and transported the deer to a veterinary center for further treatment. Once the situation was under control, the train was allowed to resume its journey.

According to reports, One sambhar managed to cross the tracks and return to the forest, the other got stuck on the rails, delaying the journey. The incident occurred near Doulatpur when the train was en route.   The train was heading from Nangal Dam to Himachal Pradesh. Upon receiving the information, employees from the administration and forest department rushed to the scene. Reports suggest that the prompt action of railway staff and officials averted a potential accident. Thanks to their efforts, both the passengers and the animals remained safe.
