Wild elephants break through border fence on Indo-Bangladesh border in northeastern India
by Aditi VermaA herd of wild elephants broke through the border fence along the border in northeastern India’s Meghalaya, raising concerns about human-wildlife conflicts in the region.
The incident took place in the Dalu region of west Garo hills at Indo-Bangladesh border on June 26.
Visuals showed a herd of wild elephants breaking through the border fencing and entering the Indian side. The powerful animals pushed against the metal barriers, bending and snapping the fences as they made their way through, causing a scene of chaos and concern among the border security personnel.
According to reports the elephants, following their traditional migration route, encountered the barrier and forcefully breached it.
The border fence, originally constructed to curb human and illegal activities, has unintentionally obstructed a vital elephant corridor necessary for the seasonal migration of these animals.
