Wild elephant sparks chaos on highway in northern India, sparks panic amongst locals
In a dramatic incident in northern India’s Uttarakhand, a wild elephant wandered onto the Laksar Highway, causing panic among locals as traffic came to a standstill.
The incident took place in Jagjitpur area of Haridwar district on October 9.
Visuals showed the elephant strolling down the road, raising panic amongst those present on the road. eventually reaching a liquor store. Fortunately, since it was early in the morning, the store was closed, and the area was not crowded. The elephant was also seen chasing a few people, adding to the chaos.
According to reports, wild elephants have been regularly entering the area, crossing the Ganga River in search of food. Range Officer Shailendra Singh Negi explained that the ready sugarcane and paddy crops are attracting the elephants. He urged locals not to leave food waste in the open, and a team has been deployed to prevent further elephant intrusions.
