Walking barefoot on burning embers! Devotees uphold 30-year-old fiery tradition
by Surya PrakashA 30-year-old tradition that requires stepping barefoot on burning embers without feeling any heat can only be described as miraculous. Devotees, having had their wishes fulfilled, run barefoot across fiery pits while applying turmeric at the famous Hanuman Ram Temple.
The incident took place in Silari village, Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, central India, on December 2.
Visuals show the devotees facing each other as they run barefoot across the fiery pits, their complete devotion evident, while locals and other devotees look on in awe.
According to reports, the Agni Mela (Fire Festival) is celebrated in Silari on the day of the new moon in the month of Agahan. On the first day of this two-day festival, 22 devotees, chanting “Jai Hanuman,” ran barefoot through the fire pits.
One devotee, Shraddha, shared that she felt no pain after stepping on the embers and didn’t get any blisters. She believes Lord Hanuman fulfils her wishes. Similarly, Sonam, another devotee, said it was her first time walking on the embers, and she didn’t feel any discomfort; her feet remained unharmed. Ashutosh Upadhyay, who has been participating in the ritual since 2002, believes his wishes have been fulfilled through Lord Hanuman’s blessings. The temple priest, Rajesh Pathak, confirmed that the Agni Mela has been an ongoing tradition at the Hanuman temple in Silari for the past 30 years.
