Voter rush causes massive traffic congestion on major highway in southern India

A significant influx of voters traveling between the cities of southern India’s Andhra Pradesh has resulted in a severe traffic jam along the National Highway connecting the two urban centers.

The incident took place between the cities Vijayawada and Hyderabad on May 11.

Visuals showed heavy congestion due to private cars jamming on the highway.

The congestion primarily stems from the return journey of voters who cast their ballots in Andhra Pradesh’s recent elections and are now making their way back to Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana state.

The Pantangi toll plaza at Choutuppal has become a focal point of the traffic standstill, with heavy vehicles halted in long queues. Additionally, commuters traveling from Kodada and Khammam districts further contribute to the congestion, exacerbating the situation.

The traffic snarl is a recurrent issue on weekends, particularly Saturdays and Sundays, as travelers from both regions often undertake journeys between Vijayawada and Hyderabad during this time. As a result, motorists are advised to exercise patience and consider alternate routes if possible to avoid delays.
