Violent dispute over land in northern India: shots fired and arson reported
A violent confrontation over land possession erupted in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh leading to gunfire and arson.
The incident took place in Izzatnagar area of Bareilly city on June 22.
Visuals showed that a group of armed individuals fired shots and set fires during the dispute, resulting in one person being injured. The assailants fled the scene after the incident, and one of their cars overturned in a nearby drain.
According to reports, the incident, which took place around 7 am, caused widespread panic among local residents. Police have since taken the car into custody and launched an investigation. Also, police and fire brigade teams quickly arrived on the scene to control the blaze and restore order.
Aditya Upadhyay and his son, Aviral Upadhyay, were detained along with their 12-bore shotgun.Additionally, a Fortuner car belonging to the opposing party was seized.
CO III Anita Chauhan confirmed that a case has been registered at the Izzatnagar police station. Two individuals are currently in custody, and police are actively conducting raids to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the incident.
