Violent clash erupts at police station in central India after religious comments spark outrage

Tensions flared in a city of central India’s Madhya Pradesh, as an angry crowd of around 600 to 700 people stormed the City Kotwali police station, demanding action over alleged offensive comments made against a religious community.
The incident took place in Chhatarpur city on August 21.
Visuals showed a huge crowd of people infront of the police station a scene of chaos and terror as violence continued between the police and the common men.
According to reports, the protest quickly escalated into violence, with protesters pelting stones at the police, leaving three officers injured, including the station in-charge, who is now in critical condition.
The confrontation began when a group initially arrived at the police station to file a complaint around 5:30 PM, but as more people gathered, the situation became volatile. The crowd, some armed with weapons and stones, began shouting slogans and demanding the immediate arrest of the person responsible for the comments. Despite efforts by police officers to calm the situation, violence erupted when stones were thrown from the crowd, injuring several officers.
Among those injured was the station in-charge, Arvind Kunjar, who sustained severe injuries to his head, hands, legs, and chest, and was also reportedly attacked with a knife. He was quickly admitted to the ICU, where his condition remains critical. Two other policemen were also injured and are receiving treatment.
Local authorities, including the Collector and Superintendent of Police, rushed to the scene to assess the situation. A large police force has been deployed across the city, and a march past is being conducted to maintain order. The police have detained around 30 individuals, including some women, for questioning in connection with the violence. CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify more culprits, and authorities have promised strict action against those responsible.
The incident has sparked concerns over communal tensions in the area, and the police are on high alert to prevent further escalation.
