Violent attack during Diwali celebration leads to family tragedy in northern India
In a shocking incident that unfolded on Diwali night in northern India’s Delhi, two armed assailants brutally shot and killed an uncle and his nephew, leaving a 10-year-old boy injured. The incident, captured on chilling CCTV footage, is believed to be linked to a long-standing land dispute.
The incident took place at Bihari Colony in Shahdara in northeast Delhi on October 31.
Visuals showed on Diwali night, two men were celebrating outside their home, lighting fireworks and enjoying the festivities. Suddenly, two assailants arrived on a scooter, initially greeting them. As one of the men, Akash, turned to go inside, one of the attackers shot him. In a swift reaction, Akash’s nephew, Rishabh, chased after the fleeing assailants, only to be shot as well. The chaos unfolded against the backdrop of colorful fireworks, marking a tragic end to a night meant for joy.
The tragic double murder occurred around 8 PM as Akash Sharma, 40, celebrated Diwali with his nephew Rishabh Sharma and his son Krish. Eyewitnesses report that the attackers arrived on a scooter and initially approached Akash to greet him, bowing down to touch his feet. Without warning, they opened fire, targeting Akash and other family members.
According to Akash’s wife, the assailants are known to them and have been involved in an ongoing dispute over property for several years. The violence erupted during a festive gathering, shocking the local community. The injured child was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The police are investigating the incident and have urged anyone with information to come forward. As the family mourns their loss, the community grapples with the senseless violence that shattered what should have been a joyous occasion.
