Violence erupts in southern India university as political rivalry turns ugly
In a shocking turn of events, chaos broke out in southern India’s Andhra Pradesh, as followers of Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy allegedly attacked MLA candidate Pulivarthi Nani.
The incident took place at Padmavati Women’s University in Chandragiri on May 14.
Visuals showed how the attackers first thrashed the entire car with tools and beer bottles, along with attacking Pulivarthi Nani and lastly crashing down the car by hitting it with another car.
The assailants reportedly wielded beer bottles, hammers, and stones, leaving Nani critically injured. The incident, which unfolded in the midst of a political campaign, sent shockwaves through the university campus and surrounding areas.
Pulivarthi Nani, who sustained serious injuries from a hammer blow, was rushed to the nearby SWIMS hospital for urgent medical attention. His condition remains a cause for concern as doctors battle to stabilize him.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, although tensions between rival political factions have been escalating in the region in the run-up to the upcoming elections. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, promising swift action against those responsible for perpetrating the violence.
