Violence erupts in northern India: outsiders assault local workers in front of police, women also attacked
A disturbing incident of violence occurred in a town in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, where a group of powerful individuals from outside the area brutally attacked local workers.
The incident took place in Bhangel, Noida city, Gautam Buddh Nagar district on June 10.
Visuals showed the attackers, wielding sticks and using their fists and feet, showed no mercy as they beat the local workers, who rely on daily labour for their livelihoods. In a shocking turn of events, the assailants did not spare women present at the scene, physically assaulting them as well.
The incident was sparked by a minor dispute, escalating into a violent confrontation in the presence of local police officers.
The unfortunate event reveals the attackers’ blatant disregard for the presence of law enforcement, as police officers appeared either unwilling or unable to intervene effectively. This has raised serious concerns about the effectiveness and integrity of local law enforcement in protecting citizens from such violence.
Local residents and activists are demanding immediate action against the perpetrators and a thorough investigation into the police’s inaction during the incident. The incident highlights ongoing issues of power dynamics and the vulnerability of marginalised communities in the region.
