Villagers heroically save 15 children after school bus gets stuck in floodwaters in northern India
In northern India’s Rajasthan, a group of quick-thinking villagers became heroes when they rescued 15 schoolchildren after their bus got stuck in deep floodwaters.
The incident took place in Bagru town of Jaipur district on August 14.
Visuals showed the villagers carrying the children on their shoulders, holding hands and assuring the kids they are safe and rescuing them.
According to reports, the incident occurred early in the morning as the bus from Waris International School attempted to navigate through three feet of rainwater on a heavily flooded road near the Lalkothi Balaji temple. Due to the driver’s apparent negligence, the bus stalled mid-journey, leaving the young passengers in grave danger.
Panic quickly spread among the children, who began crying and screaming for help. Fortunately, a group of villagers who were at a nearby temple noticed the stranded bus and rushed to the scene. With remarkable courage and swift action, they waded through the knee-deep water to reach the bus. The villagers carried the younger children on their shoulders and helped the older ones by holding their hands, guiding them safely to the temple nearby.
Once inside the temple, the children were comforted and sheltered until their parents arrived, deeply relieved that their children had escaped what could have been a tragic disaster. Eyewitnesses reported that the road had been submerged in rainwater for days, yet the driver still chose to drive the bus through it, showing a blatant disregard for the children’s safety.
The villagers’ brave and selfless act has been widely praised, but the incident has also sparked outrage in the community. Residents are calling for strict action against the bus driver and school authorities, demanding accountability for the negligence that nearly led to a catastrophe. The event has highlighted the dangers posed by the ongoing heavy rains in Rajasthan, as well as the importance of cautious and responsible behavior in such conditions.
