Village in northern India terrified after 25 snakes found in water tank

Panic spread through a village in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, when 25 snakes, including a python and a venomous krait, were discovered inside a water tank.

The incident took place in the Chambal Sanctuary area of Etawah district and the video went viral on August 30.

Visuals showed the rescued snakes kept safely inside containers for freeing them later.

According to reports, the tank, located in a residential area, became the unexpected home of the snakes, causing widespread fear among the villagers. The forest department was immediately notified and launched a rescue operation, which proved challenging due to the depth of the tank and the number of snakes.

Over several hours, the rescue team carefully removed all the snakes, ensuring that none were harmed. The snakes were then safely released into a nearby forest area. The incident has heightened concerns about the safety of public water sources in rural areas, prompting local authorities to inspect and secure other water tanks in the region.

The discovery of such a large number of snakes in a single location is unusual and has raised questions about how they ended up in the tank. Some experts believe that recent heavy rains may have driven the snakes to seek shelter in the tank, while others suggest that the snakes could have been following prey into the area.

Residents, already frightened by the incident, are demanding increased vigilance and preventive measures from authorities to avoid similar occurrences in the future. The event serves as a reminder of the often unpredictable interactions between humans and wildlife in rural India.
