Video surfaces of brutal beating by doctors and staff at district hospital in northern India

A shocking video from a District Hospital in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh has gone viral, showing doctors and hospital staff brutally beating a patient and his attendants over an alleged dispute related to medical treatment.

The incident took place at District Hospital in Gonda district on August 5.

Visuals showed a chaotic scene within a hospital ward, a violent altercation erupted between patients’ relatives and doctors. The ward was filled with confusion and panic, as the commotion drew the attention of many. People scrambled to intervene, trying to separate the two conflicting groups amidst the turmoil. The atmosphere was tense, with voices raised and a sense of urgency as bystanders and hospital staff struggled to restore order and de-escalate the situation.

The altercation reportedly began when the patient, Sarataj Ahmed, arrived at the emergency ward with high blood pressure on Monday night.

Ahmed, distressed by his condition, repeatedly asked for immediate medical attention. The situation escalated into a heated argument between the patient and the medical staff, which then turned violent. The video captures the staff physically attacking Ahmed and his companions, leading to a significant outcry on social media.

The hospital claims that the dispute began when Ahmed’s attendants became impatient with the delay in treatment and allegedly started the confrontation. According to Dr. M.K. Gupta, who was on duty in the emergency ward, the situation was exacerbated by the attendants’ aggressive behavior, which prompted the staff to forcefully remove them from the premises to prevent disruption to other patients.

Following the incident, police arrived at the hospital and brought both parties to the local police station. After a reconciliation process, the parties involved reached an agreement, although the exact details of the resolution have not been disclosed.

The video has raised serious questions about the conduct of medical professionals and the adequacy of patient care in government hospitals.
