Van carrying school teachers overturns in northern India after tire burst

A van carrying school teachers overturned in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, after a tire burst, injuring seven people.

The incident took place on the Lucknow-Delhi Highway in the Kamalapur police station area, Sitapur district on September 5.

Visuals showed a van was speeding down the road when it suddenly lost balance. The tire burst, causing the van to overturn and skid forward for a considerable distance. The screeching sound of metal scraping against the road filled the air, drawing the attention of everyone nearby. Hearing the noise, a crowd quickly gathered at the scene, rushing to help those inside the overturned vehicle. The chaos of the accident and the urgency of the situation were palpable as bystanders tried to assist the injured passengers.

According to reports the van transporting school teachers overturned on Thursday morning. The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. in the Kamalapur police station area when the van’s rear tire suddenly burst, causing the vehicle to lose control and overturn. The white van, registered under number UP 32 MQ 4558, skidded for approximately 20 meters before coming to a halt. The accident was captured on nearby CCTV footage.

The injured, including teachers Nidhi Srivastava, Shreya Jaiswal, Vikrant Katiyar, and Vagish Saxena, were immediately rushed to a nearby health center. According to Kamalapur police station in-charge, Pradeep Singh, all the injured received medical treatment and were later discharged after initial care.

The investigation revealed that the van’s pollution certificate had expired four months ago, on April 26. The van is registered with the Lucknow Regional Transport Office (RTO). The incident has raised concerns about vehicle maintenance and road safety, as the expired pollution certificate could have contributed to the tire burst.

Local authorities have urged vehicle owners to ensure proper maintenance and compliance with safety regulations to prevent such accidents in the future.
