Unique locomotive-less train breaches 180kmph during trial run in northern India
Vande Bharat Express, or Train 18, crossed the 180kmph speed mark during a trial run in northern India’s Rajasthan.
The trial was done on the Kota-Nagda section in Kota district on August 26.
Visuals showed the speed trial of the train where the marker on the speedometer breached the 180 kmph mark. The train has the capacity to run at 200 kmph should the tracks and signals of the Indian railway system permit.

The fully air-conditioned train will have special aerodynamically designed cabins for the drivers at both ends. It also has 16 coaches and will be able to carry the same number of passengers as that of the Shatabdi Express.
What’s more, is that this train offers better safety and comfort for the passengers and it also has an advanced regenerative braking system. A report of the trial run would be shared with the Railway Safety Commissioner.
If the Railway Safety Commissioner gives a go-ahead, then this train will start operating on Indian tracks. It was also learnt that 75 such trains would be run all over the country, by August 23.
