Truck transporting tomatoes overturns in northern India, police secure area to prevent looting
In a late-night incident on the Jhansi-Gwalior Highway in northern India, a truck carrying 1,800 kg of tomatoes overturned, scattering the produce across the road.
The incident took place near the Sipri Bazaar area in Jhansi district on October 17.
Visuals showed the truck overturned with tomatoes spread over the highway, while local police were seen cordoning off the area to prevent nearby villagers and passersby from looting the spilled cargo. The police remained vigilant throughout the night to ensure that the scattered tomatoes were not stolen.
According to reports, the truck, driven by a man named Arjun, was en route from Bengaluru to Delhi when a cow suddenly appeared on the road, causing the vehicle to veer out of control and overturn. A woman named Sonal, who was riding a scooter behind the truck, was injured and taken to the hospital, while the truck’s helper sustained minor injuries.
As news of the accident spread, locals gathered at the scene, with some attempting to take the tomatoes. However, the police acted swiftly, securing the area and standing guard until morning.
