In the aftermath of Cyclone Remal’s landfall, Manipur has been grappling with relentless rainfall, leading to widespread flooding and landslides. The most significant incident occurred at Sinam village along the Imphal-Jiribam road, NH-37, where a truck plunged into a gorge due to the torrential rains. The heavy rainfall triggered landslides and mudslides, creating large amounts of debris that stranded many vehicles on both sides of the road. Efforts are underway to clear the debris with excavators.
The continuous downpour has severely disrupted normal life in multiple districts, including Imphal East, Imphal West, Kangpokpi, and Senapati. Major roads and areas in these districts have been inundated, causing significant inconvenience to residents. Despite the challenging conditions, there have been no reported casualties.
In Imphal East district, areas such as Andro parking, Checkon, Mahabali, and Wangkhei have experienced severe waterlogging and clogged drains, leading to disrupted traffic movement. Similar issues have been reported in Kakwa, Imphal West district, where major roads have been submerged, further hampering transportation.
Senapati district has been particularly hard-hit, with multiple rivers overflowing and floodwaters inundating several localities. The situation has been exacerbated by swollen rivers in the Imphal valley, including the Imphal river, due to the relentless rainfall.
Authorities are working tirelessly to manage the flooding and clear the roads, aiming to restore normalcy as soon as possible. Residents are advised to remain cautious and adhere to safety guidelines as efforts continue to address the aftermath of Cyclone Remal.
