Train carrying coal derails in northern India, halting traffic on major highway

In a major incident in northern India’s Bihar, a coal-loaded goods train derailed, causing severe traffic disruption on National Highway 82.

The incident took place near NH-82 Rasalpur Gumti on the Gaya-Dhanbad rail section in Gaya district on August 25.

Visuals showed the train coming to a halt after the derailment, while passersby were left stranded at the closed railway crossing, waiting for it to open. The coal scattered across the tracks further complicated the situation.

According to reports, three coaches of the goods train derailed, leading to a complete standstill of traffic on NH-82. Many vehicles were stranded, creating long queues on both sides of the crossing. The goods train was on its way from Wazirganj to Gaya when the accident occurred. Railway officials and rescue teams rushed to the scene, working to restore the line and clear the road. Fortunately, the incident did not lead to any casualties.

Local residents faced significant challenges due to the traffic jam, and senior officials promptly arrived at the site to oversee the restoration efforts.
