Tragic! Water tower submerged in river after erosion crisis in northern India
by ShravyaIn a troubling development in northern India’s Bihar, a water tower built for Rs 14 lakhs (USD 16,672) was engulfed by the Ganges River due to severe erosion.
The incident occurred in Sabour village of Bhagalpur district, on September 2.
Visuals captured the water tower collapsing into the river within seconds after breaking apart. Shocked and concerned residents watched as the structure disintegrated and submerged.
According to reports, Masadhu village continues to suffer from severe erosion. Panchayat head Ashok Kumar stated that the tap-water scheme, costing Rs 14 lakhs, was completed five years ago. If anti-erosion measures had been implemented in time, the water tower might have been saved. The erosion threatens to leave 200 families without access to drinking water and endangers more than two dozen houses. Additionally, 25 houses are on the verge of erosion and could soon be absorbed by the Ganges.
