Tragic! wall collapse amid heavy rains in southern India
In a tragic incident on the outskirts in southern India’s Karnataka, four members of a family lost their lives when a retaining wall collapsed onto their house.
The incident took place in Madani Nagara area, Mangalore city on June 26.
Visuals showed the terribly damaged house after the wall collapsed.
According to reports, Mullai Muhilan, the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, confirmed the incident, stating, “Four people died when the retaining wall collapsed on the house at Madani Nagara, outskirts of Mangaluru.” The deceased have been identified as Yasir (45), his wife Mariyamma (40), and their daughters Rihanan (11) and Rifaan (17).
Locals rushed to the scene to rescue those trapped under the debris. The wall belonged to a neighboring house owned by Aboobacker, whose compound wall collapse led to this disaster. Heavy rains have been lashing Dakshina Kannada since Tuesday night, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the district until June 27.
