In a heart-wrenching incident in western India’s Maharashtra, a three-year-old girl lost her life after a metallic sliding gate fell on her while she was playing near her residence.

The incident took place in Ganesh Nagar in Bopkhel of Pimpri Chinchwad city on July 31.

Visuals showed the victim and another girl running towards a boy who was closing the sliding gate of a building. Unfortunately, the heavy iron door, which appeared to be loosely connected, collapsed and crushed the victim.

According to the reports, the Pimpri Chinchwad police have identified the victim as Girija Ganesh Shinde. Girija’s father works in a private job. Her parents and grandparents were at home when she went out to play with a doll in her hand that afternoon.

The children immediately informed her parents. Neighbors and her parents rushed to the spot, lifted the gate, and took Girija to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police reported.

A case of accidental death was registered at Dighi police station. Senior police inspector Vijay Dhamal stated that an inquiry was being conducted into the incident and that further action would be determined based on the findings.
