Tragic! Stampede triggered by fire rumor on train in northern India
In a tragic incident in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, a stampede broke out in the general coach of the Punjab Mail Express, which was en route from Howrah, West Bengal, to Amritsar, Punjab, following rumors of a fire.
The incident took place at Miranpur Katra in Shahjahanpur district on August 11.
Visuals showed distressed passengers standing on the tracks, visibly confused and panicked. They were seen jumping from the moving train, attempting to save themselves from the perceived danger.
According to reports, 20 people were injured in the incident, with seven in critical condition. These seven individuals were admitted to the Government Medical College in Shahjahanpur for treatment.
Passengers, fearing for their lives, jumped from the moving train, leading to severe injuries. However, it was later revealed that there was no fire in the train and it is said that the panic was triggered by a rumor. The injured passengers, who were traveling in the general coach, suffered serious injuries due to the hasty evacuation.
Reportedly, the incident took place around 8 am on Sunday. According to the Senior DCM of Moradabad Railway Division, some miscreants had discharged a fire extinguisher in the general coach of the 13006 Punjab Mail, causing the train to halt. The sudden stop, coupled with the rumor of a fire, led to the passengers’ desperate actions.
