Tragic Janmashtami festival accident in northern India: woman’s dupatta gets caught in generator, suffers severe head damage
In a horrifying accident during the Janmashtami festival in northern India’s Rajasthan, a woman lost her life when her dupatta (scarf) got caught in a generator, causing fatal injuries.
The incident took place in Barmer district on August 27.
Visuals showed the joyous scene of women dancing, the air filled with festive music, when suddenly a horrifying moment unfolded. As a woman danced near the generator, her dupatta was violently pulled into the spinning machinery. In an instant, the celebration turned into chaos as the generator ruthlessly dragged her in, causing catastrophic damage to her head. The suddenness and brutality of the accident left everyone in shock, turning a moment of joy into a scene of unimaginable horror.
According to reports, the incident occurred in Kundal village as the woman, Maafi Devi, was joyfully dancing with others during the celebration. As she danced near the generator, her dupatta became entangled in the machinery, pulling her with such force that her head was severely injured, leading to her death.
The tragic event unfolded around 4 PM on Tuesday, leaving witnesses in shock and panic. Onlookers rushed Maafi Devi to Nahta Hospital in Balotra, but she was declared dead on arrival. The gruesome accident was captured on video by someone recording the festivities, and the footage has since gone viral, sparking widespread horror and sympathy.
Following the incident, the owner of the generator reportedly fled the scene, and the local police have registered a case, launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The woman’s body has been handed over to her family after a post-mortem examination.
