Tragic incident: 4-year-old girl drowns while family films reel in northern India
A four-year-old girl tragically drowned in the Ganges River in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, while her family was filming a reel.
The incident took place at Pacca Ghat in Saidpur Nagar, Ghazipur district on November 4.
Visuals showed while the family was busy filming Instagram reels by the banks of the Ganges River, four-year-old Tanya wandered into the deeper waters. In a tragic moment, she slipped beneath the surface, disappearing from sight as her relatives remained unaware of the imminent danger surrounding the innocent child.
The heartbreaking incident took place when Ankita Pandey, a resident of Umrah village in Varanasi, visited her parental home in Baurwan village for the festival with her daughter, Tanya. On Monday, Ankita, along with her sister Smriti, sister-in-law Archana, and mother Lakshmina, took Tanya to Pacca Ghat for a ritual bath in the Ganges.
While Tanya was playing and bathing in the river with her cousins, her aunt Smriti was busy recording their activities on her mobile phone. In a moment of tragedy, Tanya ventured into deeper waters and began to struggle. Witnesses reported that at one point, they could see her foot and then her head above the water before she disappeared beneath the surface.
Despite immediate efforts to rescue her, Tanya could not be saved, leading to a devastating loss for the family during what was meant to be a festive occasion.
