Tragic flood in northern India: car swept away due to torrential rain

Heavy rainfall in northern India’s Himachal Pradesh has resulted in the death of 12 people, including nine members of a single family, as intense flooding caused severe damage and destruction. The disaster unfolded over the course of ten hours, exacerbating the loss of life and property in the region.

The incident took place in the Tahliwal industrial area and the Jejo region near the Himachal-Punjab border in Una district on August 11.

Visuals showed in the flooded area, the scene was marked by a powerful and tumultuous flow of water. The heavy rain had transformed the landscape into a vast, churning expanse of water, with the current moving rapidly and violently. Amidst this chaotic flood, a car was submerged, its top barely visible above the surface of the swirling water. The surrounding area was engulfed in water, with debris and rubble carried along by the strong current, creating a striking and distressing image of nature’s overwhelming force.

In a devastating turn of events, heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh’s Una district led to significant loss of life and property. On Sunday, relentless downpours turned into a calamity, resulting in the deaths of 12 individuals, including nine from the same family.

The family, consisting of 11 members, was en route to a wedding in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur when their vehicle became trapped in the swift currents of a ditch near the Himachal-Punjab border in Jejo. Despite rescue efforts by the Punjab administration, the high water flow made it nearly impossible to save them. Of the 11 individuals who were swept away, nine bodies were recovered, one person remains missing, and one was rescued by local residents.

In the industrial area of Talhiwal, the torrential rains wreaked havoc, causing factory roofs to collapse and walls to crumble. Several vehicles were also ruined, and three people were killed in the industrial zone as a result of the flooding. A petrol pump in the area succumbed to the floodwaters, further compounding the destruction. The overall damage is estimated to be in the millions.

The tragedy highlights the severe impact of the monsoon rains on the region, with both human lives and infrastructure suffering extensive damage.
