Tragic car accident claims two lives as boulder strikes vehicles in eastern India

A large boulder came loose from the mountainside and collided with two cars in northeastern India’s Nagaland.

The incident took place on Pakala hill at National Highway 29, between Dimapur and Kohima on July 4.

Visuals showed the road congested with a long line of vehicles in hilly terrain, creating a traffic jam. Suddenly, a massive boulder broke off and crashed down onto a car, completely flattening it. The car was completely crushed under the weight of the boulder, resulting in severe damage. Subsequently, another car ahead was also struck by a falling rock, causing it to overturn and rollover.

Two individuals lost their lives in this accident, while three others sustained serious injuries.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening on National Highway 29, between Dimapur and Kohima, where several vehicles were stranded due to a traffic jam. The victims have not been identified yet.

The incident was captured on the dashboard camera of a car standing behind. The video clearly shows a massive boulder rolling down and crushing the two cars. According to officials, two people were killed, and three others were severely injured in the accident. The injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed his condolences for the loss of lives in a tweet. He mentioned that the site of the accident is known as “Pakala Hill” and is infamous for landslides and falling rocks. The Chief Minister stated that his government is taking all necessary steps to provide emergency services and essential medical assistance to the injured.
