Tragic bus accident in southern India claims one life, several injured

A KSRTC bus veered off course in southern India’s Kerala resulting in a tragic accident that claimed the life of a 63-year-old woman and left multiple passengers injured.

 

The incident took place in Thiruvambadi, which is a locality in the Kozhikode district on October  8. 

Visuals showed a bus had crashed into a culvert and plunged into the Kaliyambuzha River, creating a chaotic scene. The bus, partially submerged in the water, is surrounded by onlookers who have gathered along the riverbank. A large crane is on-site, its bright yellow arm extended over the river, preparing to lift the bus out of the water. The atmosphere is tense as emergency responders work diligently to manage the situation, while people in the crowd display a mix of concern and curiosity, capturing the moment on their phones. The lush greenery surrounding the river contrasts with the distressing event, adding to the urgency of the rescue operation.

 

The accident occurred around 1:40 p.m. when the bus struck a culvert and plunged into the Kaliyambuzha River. Rajeswari, a resident of Anakkampoyil, succumbed to her injuries while being transported to a hospital in Omassery. 

 

The fall caused the bus to overturn, and several passengers sustained injuries in the incident. Rescue operations are currently underway, with some injured individuals being taken to Kozhikode Medical College, a private hospital in Omassery, and another facility in Mukkam for medical treatment. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident to prevent similar incidents in the future.
