In a devastating accident, a truck loaded with sand overturned on a family sleeping in a roadside shed, claiming the lives of eight family members and the sole surviving member is a one year old baby girl. 

The tragic incident occurred near Chungi-2 on the Katra-Bilhaur Highway in the Mallawan Kotwali area of Hardoi district on June 12.

Visuals showed the overturned truck that was carrying the white sand and also the slum area around the place.

According to reports the family, seeking rest for the night, had taken shelter in a makeshift roadside shed. In the early hours, a truck carrying sand lost control and tipped over, burying the shed and its occupants under a massive mound of sand. Emergency responders rushed to the scene but were unable to save the eight family members trapped beneath the heavy load.

Local authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, focusing on potential factors such as driver fatigue, vehicle overload, or road conditions. The police have also launched a search for the truck driver, who reportedly fled the scene after the accident.
