Tragic accident at Menal waterfall in northern India

A tragic incident at a Waterfall in northern India’s Rajasthan has resulted in the death of a 26-year-old man. While bathing in the waterfall’s swift current, the man was swept away and fell into a 150-foot deep ravine, despite rescue efforts by other tourists and officials.

The incident took place at Menal Waterfall, which is situated in the Bilolai area on the boundary between Bhilwara and Chittorgarh districts on August 5.

Visuals showed at the Menal Waterfall, the water flow surged dramatically. Amid the chaos, some individuals tried to rescue two people being swept away. While one person was successfully saved, the other was carried away by the raging current and tragically drowned. The scene was marked by frantic attempts to rescue the victims against the powerful, turbulent water.

The victim, 26-year-old Kanhaiyalal Berwa from Bhilwara’s Bhavani Nagar, was visiting the site with his friend, Akshit Dhobi from Shastri Nagar. The duo was enjoying a bath in the waterfall when they were suddenly caught in the strong current.

Akshit managed to grab onto a rock and was rescued by other tourists present at the scene. However, Kanhaiyalal was swept away by the powerful flow and fell approximately 150 feet into a ravine. Despite prompt response from local officials and divers, efforts to locate and rescue Kanhaiyalal were unsuccessful.

This incident marks the fourth major accident at Menal in the past month. Earlier incidents included the death of a buffalo in the waterfall’s current and two separate rescues of five individuals who were swept away. Authorities have urged tourists to avoid bathing in areas with strong currents and to adhere to safety regulations, particularly in places where water levels can rise rapidly and conditions can become hazardous.
