Tragedy strikes after vehicle carrying nine falls into rivulet in northern India

Tragedy struck after a vehicle skidded off into the Sindh Nallah at Gund Gagangeer on Leh-Srinagar highway in northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir.

This incident took place on April 28.

Visuals showed efforts being made to rescue the people that were stranded in the flooded river. Officials held the hands of the victims and brought them out of the river. In another visual they were seen putting a person on a stretcher. A ladder was placed between a rock and the side of the river for the rescue.

Speaking to Newslions, SHO Mushtaqulislam said this incident led to the death of four people which included two female tourists and one labourer. Three were said to have injuries and shockingly, two people are feared missing in this accident. The vehicle, a Chevrolet Tavera, was on its way towards Srinagar from a tourist resort in Sonamarg when this accident happened.

It lost control and fell into the Sindh Nallah. The driver escaped from the vehicle as quickly as he could as the car plunged into the water and rescue teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local authorities and police rushed to conduct the rescue operation. A total of 10 people were suspected to be inside the vehicle and the authorities have issued a lookout alert for the ones missing.
