Tragedy hits after bus falls into deep pit in central India
Tragedy struck as at least 15 people died and 12 others sustained injuries after a bus fell into a deep pit in central India’s Chhattisgarh.
This incident took place near Khapri village in Durg district on April 9.
Visuals showed the wrecked bus lying in the pit. The bus had overturned and a big crowd had gathered in the area as the accident took place. There were people who had gathered above the pit as well. According to a report, the incident happened at around 8:30 pm IST (Indian Standard Time) under the Kumhari police station limits. The bus which met with this accident had more than 30 employees of a private distillery. This unfortunate incident happened when they were returning home from work. The bus veered off the road as the driver lost control and landed straight 40 feet below into the murum soil mine. As soon as the information was shared, the police rushed to the spot to conduct a rescue operation. A total of 11 people died initially while four others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. Six others are said to be in critical condition. The number of deaths is likely to increase as the rescuers are working hard to find the bodies of the victims in the dark.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai offered condolences to the victims of this unfortunate accident.
