Tourists capture dramatic avalanche near famous temple in northern India
An avalanche sent a river of ice cascading down a mountainside, a spectacle captured by tourists visiting Kedarnath Temple in northern India’s Uttarakhand.
The incident took place above Gandhi Sarovar in Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district on June 30.
Visuals showed snow was cascading down from a mountain, with the entire mass of snow rushing downward.
An avalanche occurred above Gandhi Sarovar in Kedarnath early Sunday morning, sending a river of ice cascading down the mountainside. The dramatic natural phenomenon was captured on mobile phones by tourists visiting the Kedarnath temple.
The avalanche, which took place around 5 a.m., caused no casualties or damage. Witnesses reported seeing a massive cloud of snow and ice descending into a deep gorge, creating a spectacular yet terrifying scene. The event prompted immediate response from local authorities, though there were no injuries or fatalities reported.
The avalanche occurred above Chorabari in the Himalayan range. This area had previously experienced a similar incident in 2022, which also resulted in significant snowfall.
SSP Rudraprayag, Dr. Vishakha Ashok Bhadane, confirmed the incident, emphasizing that there were no casualties or property damage. The stunning visuals of the avalanche have since been widely shared on social media, highlighting the raw power and beauty of nature in the region.
