Man-Animal Conflict: Villagers Round UP, Harass Tiger Trying to Cross River in India
A tragic man-animal conflict unfolded in northeastern India’s Assam, where a tiger was pelted with stones by locals as it searched for a safe habitat. The incident occurred near the Kolong River, raising concerns about the coexistence of humans and wildlife.
The incident took place at Kaliabor, Nagaon district near the Kolong River and the video went viral on November 21.
Visuals showed a tiger, hidden in the river, being attacked by several people from the shore. The attackers hurled multiple stones at the tiger, causing visible injuries. The animal, clearly distressed and injured, attempted to escape while the attackers continued their assault, creating a heart-wrenching and chaotic scene
According to reports, the tiger, seemingly in search of a secure habitat, was met with hostility as people pelted it with stones.
Police personnel intervened swiftly upon receiving information and managed to prevent further attacks. Despite their efforts, the tiger sustained injuries during the assault.
The forest department is currently working to safely drive the injured tiger away from the nearby human settlement and into its natural habitat.
This incident underscores the growing challenges faced by wildlife as they struggle to adapt to shrinking habitats and human encroachment. Conservationists have called for increased awareness and measures to ensure peaceful coexistence between humans and animals.
