Three laborers trapped in northern India’s sewer collapse, two rescued

In a tragic incident in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, three laborers were trapped under a heap of soil while inspecting a sewer line excavation. Unfortunately, one worker lost his life in the mishap.

 

The incident took place at DLF Ved Vihar Colony, located in the Ankur Vihar area of Ghaziabad and the video went viral on October 9.

Visuals showed after the workers fell into the pit, the scene was chaotic as people rushed to pull out the body of the man who had tragically lost his life. There was a palpable sense of panic and tension in the air, with shouts echoing and frantic efforts to rescue the trapped men. A large crowd had gathered around the site, watching anxiously as the rescue unfolded. Faces in the crowd were filled with worry, and some tried to help while others stood frozen in shock. The atmosphere was thick with urgency and fear as the workers struggled to clear the soil and retrieve the body from the collapsed pit.

 

The incident occurred during the digging of a sewer line where three laborers descended into the trench for inspection. Suddenly, a large amount of soil collapsed on them, burying them underneath. Local residents immediately initiated rescue efforts before emergency agencies arrived, managing to extricate the buried workers. All three were rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced 21-year-old Munesh, a resident of Moradabad, deceased upon arrival.

 

Police have taken custody of Munesh’s body for post-mortem, while the other two laborers are undergoing medical treatment. The sewer line excavation, undertaken by the Jal Nigam, aimed to enhance local infrastructure but tragically turned fatal due to the soil collapse.
