Temple theft in northern India: thieves strike again, steal goddess’ ornaments caught on CCTV

In a brazen act of theft, thieves targeted a temple in northern India’s Bihar, stealing ornaments from the deity amidst heightened security measures.

The incident took place at Shri Durga Aradhana Temple in Harnaut, Nalanda district on July 7.

Visuals showed under the veil of darkness, a thief stealthily entered the inner sanctum of the temple dedicated to the goddess, quietly pilfering precious gold items. Swiftly, he slipped out into the night, evading detection, leaving behind a trail of disbelief and anger among the temple’s devotees and residents.

Security footage captured the moment when a thief broke into the temple late at night, snatching valuable ornaments from the idol of Goddess Durga before fleeing the scene. This incident marks a recurring pattern of thefts at the same temple, despite the recent installation of CCTV cameras following a previous theft just two weeks ago. Local police, led by Thana Chief Abu Talib Ansari, are actively investigating the incident, reviewing CCTV footage to apprehend the culprit swiftly.

Residents in Harnaut have expressed outrage and concern over the repeated thefts targeting places of worship, raising questions about local law enforcement’s vigilance and security measures. Authorities assure the community of prompt action to apprehend the perpetrator and enhance security measures to prevent future incidents.
