Teen trapped in society lift for an hour in northern India, rescued with iron rod
A 16-year-old boy in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh was trapped in a lift for nearly an hour late Sunday night due to a technical malfunction.
The Incident occurred in Green Arc Society, located in the Bisrakh area of Greater Noida West on August 11.
Visuals showed a young boy trapped inside a lift while outside, his family members and other society residents are gathered, anxiously trying to rescue him. They are using an iron rod to pry open the lift’s door. The scene is tense, with everyone focused on freeing the boy. After a strenuous effort, the lift gate finally opens, and the boy is successfully pulled out, relieved and unharmed. The expressions of concern and determination on the faces of the rescuers reflect the urgency of the situation.
In a distressing incident, a 16-year-old boy named Nishesh was trapped in a lift for over an hour at the Green Arc Society in Greater Noida West. The incident occurred late Sunday night when Nishesh descended from the 13th floor of his apartment building in F Tower. The lift abruptly stopped between the 8th and 9th floors due to a technical fault.
Despite his repeated calls for help, the lift’s emergency systems failed, leaving him stranded. His father, Nishit Dwivedi, and other residents, along with the maintenance staff, struggled to open the lift. After significant effort, they finally managed to pry open the lift doors using an iron rod, freeing the boy unharmed.
The Bisrakh police station was informed of the incident, and the maintenance department of the society was warned to prevent such occurrences in the future. This incident is not an isolated case, as similar issues with malfunctioning lifts have been reported in other high-rise societies in the Greater Noida West area. Despite the enactment of the Lift Act in Uttar Pradesh, which was supposed to address such safety concerns, the frequency of these incidents remains alarmingly high.
Experts point out that poor maintenance and lack of proper upkeep are the primary causes behind these repeated failures. Residents are increasingly worried about the safety standards in their societies and are urging authorities to take stricter actions against those responsible for the maintenance of these essential amenities.
