T-20 Cricket World Cup betting racket busted in central India; seizing 1,735,109.15 USD worth cash

The police reported the dismantling of a major T-20 Cricket World Cup betting racket and the seizure of nearly Rs 15 crore ( 1,735,109.15 USD).They also confiscated currencies from seven different nations, including the pound, dollar, and dirham in central India’sMadhya Pradesh
The incident took place in Ujjain on June 13.

According to the reports,Inspector General, Santosh Kumar Singh stated that the racket was being run from the residence of Piyush Chopra, the alleged kingpin, located in Dreams Colony under Neelganga police station. During Thursday night’s T-20 World Cricket match between Bangladesh and Netherlands, the suspects were actively engaging in betting. A police team conducted a raid at this location and apprehended 9 individuals.
Under the leadership of Ujjain SP, a joint team of two police station areas and the Crime Branch has carried out this major action. It is believed that this is the biggest action taken so far in Ujjain. Because the police was continuously receiving information for a long time that betting business is being done through T20 World Cup and gaming at different places in Ujjain. Police took action late at night and recovered crores of rupees of Indian and foreign currency from both the places. Along with this, gold and silver, laptop, computer, TV, mobile phone and other items have been seized.
The police had to call for a machine to count the cash. The police along with the guard have safely sent the cash to the control room. This action continued till late night. Today on Friday the police will hold a press conference and reveal the matter.
