Suspicious smoke erupts from ground in central India: panic strikes residents

In a surprising turn of events, residents of central India’s Madhya Pradesh were thrown into a state of panic when smoke began emerging from the ground.

The incident took place near HP Petrol Pump, Indore Road, Depalpur, Indore District on July 21.

Visuals showed on the surface of the ground, there was a layer of mud with some water pooled on top. The water was bubbling up, creating small, frothy waves. From underneath, smoke began to rise, initially in small wisps but gradually increasing in volume. As the smoke thickened, it spread across the area, causing concern among the people present. The growing smoke combined with the bubbling water created a dramatic and unsettling scene, leading to visible anxiety and apprehension among the onlookers.

Residents of Depalpur were startled when smoke began billowing from the ground near an HP petrol pump on Indore Road. The eerie sight, reminiscent of a volcanic eruption, led to widespread panic among the local population. The unusual occurrence, observed in the form of bubbling water and wet soil, prompted immediate action from the community, who contacted local authorities and the electricity department.

Upon investigation, the electricity department confirmed that the smoke was caused by a fault in streetlight wiring beneath the ground. The malfunction had caused the underground wiring to overheat, leading to the smoke and bubbling effect. The quick response from the authorities ensured that the issue was resolved promptly, and the situation was brought under control.

Residents were relieved to learn that there was no imminent danger and that the smoke was not related to any natural or hazardous phenomena. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with underground utilities and the importance of timely maintenance and inspections.
