Sudden leak in 600-mm water pipeline turns roads into streams, hampering commute

A sudden leak in a 600-mm diameter main water pipeline has flooded roads, turning them into streams and bringing the commute to a standstill.

The incident took place at Lucky Junction on Swami Vivekananda Road in Bandra West of Mumbai city, Maharashtra, western India on December 10.

Visuals show water gushing from the burst pipeline, turning the road into an ankle-deep flood, with commuters struggling to navigate through the fast-flowing water on their vehicles.

According to reports, the leak was detected around 2 am, and the civic team has initiated repair work on an urgent basis to control the water loss. As a result of the leak, the water supply to the H-West ward (covering parts of Khar and Bandra West) has been affected. While some areas are experiencing water disruptions, normal supply will be restored once the repairs are completed.

In the meantime, certain areas are receiving water at low pressure from the Versova Reservoir and the remaining Pali inlets. Civic authorities have urged residents to use water sparingly and conserve it during this period.
