The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for southern India’s Telangana, predicting heavy rains over the next five days.

The incident took place at Madhapur, near IKEA and T-Hub in Hyderabad on June 5.

Visuals showed after continuous heavy rainfall, the roads were flooded, making it difficult for vehicles to move. This resulted in a long traffic jam. People’s cars were stuck in traffic for hours.

Waterlogged roads contributed to significant congestion, particularly in the city’s IT hub. Commuters faced slow-moving traffic from Nanakramguda to Gachibowli junction on the Outer Ring Road (ORR). Heavy traffic was also reported at the IKEA junction from all directions. Cyberabad traffic police have advised commuters to avoid these routes and plan their journeys with the ongoing rains and waterlogging in mind.

Other areas experiencing sluggish vehicle movement included Mehdipatnam, SD Eye Hospital, Humayun Nagar, NMDC, and Masabtank. Delays were similarly reported from locations such as opposite Prajavani Bhavan, Kakathiya Hotel, Monappa, and Panjagutta X Road heading towards NFCL. The rain also slowed down traffic in Rasoolpura, Begumpet, CTO, and HPS out gate.

Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams were actively working to clear water stagnation in various parts of the city. Commuters needing assistance were urged to contact the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC-DRF).

In Jagtial district, isolated heavy rainfall was reported, with Vikarabad district also experiencing significant downpours. Similar heavy rain incidents were observed in Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts. Thunderstorms, rain, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) were reported at isolated places across several districts in Telangana.

The IMD’s yellow warning calls for caution as more heavy rains, lightning, and gusty winds are expected to continue over the next five days.
