Student rescued after attempted suicide on train tracks in northern India

In a dramatic turn of events in northern India’s Bihar, a student was saved from an attempted suicide on railway tracks by the quick actions of a train driver and local women.

The incident took place at Chakia Power House, near Chakia railway station, in Motihari district on September 10.

Visuals showed a girl lying on a railway track, attempting to commit suicide. A train was approaching, but the alert train pilot managed to stop the train in time. Nearby, a few people were desperately trying to remove her from the tracks, urging her to move away from the railway lines. Despite their efforts, the girl resisted, refusing to get up or move away from the tracks, determined to stay there. The scene was tense, with people pulling and persuading her to leave, while she remained steadfast in her decision, lying close to the tracks.

Fortunately, the train driver, showing remarkable presence of mind, applied the emergency brakes in time to avoid a tragedy. Despite the train stopping, the student remained lying on the tracks. Nearby women intervened, forcibly dragging the student away from the tracks to ensure her safety. Even as they tried to help her, the student repeatedly expressed a desire to die, saying, “Let me die, leave me alone.”

The dramatic incident was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media. In the footage, the student can be seen lying on the tracks with a bag on her back while local women pull her to safety. Following the intervention, the train was able to proceed, and the student was taken away from the area.

Residents are speculating about the reasons behind the student’s drastic action, with some suggesting family issues or a romantic relationship might have been contributing factors. The incident remains a hot topic of discussion in the community.
