Stray dog attacks raise alarms in southern India: woman bitten fatally
In a concerning incident, a woman was bitten by a stray dog while walking in the OMBR Layout of southern India’s Karnataka.
The incident took place in Banaswadi, Bengaluru city on August 29.
Visuals showed a woman walking along the road when a dog suddenly approaches and bites her on the feet. She struggles to fend off the dog, but fortunately, nearby locals rush to her aid. In another visual, her bloodied feet with bite marks are visible.
According to reports, this attack is one of many in the city, which reportedly sees around 20,000 dog bite cases annually. The woman, who was quietly walking when the dog attacked, received immediate medical attention, but the incident has added to growing fears about stray dog attacks in the area.
Earlier this week, a more tragic incident occurred in Jalahalli, another neighborhood in Bengaluru, where a woman was bitten to death by a pack of stray dogs. This fatal attack has intensified calls for stricter measures to control the stray dog population in the city and protect residents from similar dangers.
Local authorities are under pressure to address the increasing number of stray dogs and prevent further attacks. Efforts are being made to implement more robust animal control programs, including sterilization and vaccination drives, but the problem remains significant, with residents demanding urgent action to ensure their safety.
